Types of social phobias: beyond shynessTypes of social phobias: beyond shyness

We never get tired of insisting that phobias are not hobbies or peculiarities of character.  Phobias are a problem that must be treated as soon as possible because they soon begin to affect all areas of life. Social life is the first to wear out when a phobia appears, which is why we are analyzing the types of social phobias in our phobia

What is social phobia?

Social phobia is an anxiety disorder that is characterized by fear of some social situations. Sometimes it is confused with shyness and it is true that they often go hand in hand. The fear is varied, of not being accepted, of being ridiculous, of being judged, of being marginalized, of not fitting in…

Since we live in society, it is very difficult to go to the classic resource when a phobia appears, which avoidance is. To some extent you can avoid getting on a plane if you have aerophobia, to some extent you can avoid the color green if you have chlorophobia, and to some extent you can avoid spiders if you have arachnophobia. But you can’t help but live in society.

Types of social phobia

There are two types of social phobia. One is generalized social phobia, which appears in all social situations, no matter what type. Any social interaction can trigger an anxiety, whether it has to go to work, school, a party, or a family meal.

On the other hand, there is the specific social phobia, which only appears in specific social situations. The most frequent are speaking in public, starting a conversation with a stranger or eating with other people. In any case, both types of social phobia are limiting and tend to get worse.

Phobias Related to Social Phobia

Without belonging to the group of social phobias, there are many phobias that begin by affecting your social life.

1 Eremophobia

The fear of loneliness can seem like the opposite of social phobia, because you feel the need to always be around people. But being afraid jeopardizes the quality of your social relationships.

2 Erythrophobia

The fear of blushing is one of those phobias that limit you when it comes to relating to others. You don’t dare to intervene and you are always on your guard in case someone says something to you and your blush betrays your insecurity.

3 Controltophobia

The fear of sexuality does not have to affect your social life, but the fact is that if you are afraid of going down the street alone or getting into an elevator with another person, you will tend to avoid any social situation.

4 Androphobia

If you are afraid it will not only affect your romantic relationships, but it will be difficult for you to establish friendships with men.

5 Gynophobia

The same, but inversely we can say about the fear of women. It is a phobia that can affect both your love life and your social life.

6 Phonophobia

When you are afraid that people make, the natural tendency is to avoid being with people and therefore social isolation is the greatest risk.
